The New Alves Family Herb Garden
What a great day! As you will soon learn I’m really into improving my mind, body and spirit. Recently I read an article that explained starting an herb garden can be therapeutic, fun and useful. I figure it’s a great way to have fresh herbs on hand for cooking, and something the kids might enjoy participating with as a family activity as well.
So after I saw My Husband Greg off to work and my kids off to school, I went down to the local plant nursery and picked up some basil, rosemary, mint (for mojitos!) dill and parsley. With the yard to myself, I prepped my containers with potting soil and started digging. This may sound hokey but the birds were singing, the sun was shining — I felt so happy to be working with my hands and the soil! I can definitely say that during the few hours that I was planting, my mind was free and I had a song in my heart. I wasn’t thinking about what refreshments to serve at the next PTA meeting or what to make for dinner when company comes to visit. I was just focused on the task at hand and my planters came out looking beautiful!
I can’t wait to show my herbs all of the love and affection that they will need as they start to grow and I am already anxiously awaiting my first harvest. That first mojito that I make with the fresh mint that I’ve grown will be one to remember. Could this be my first step towards homesteading?! I guess time will tell…
